The Qutub Minar, a UNESCO heritage site, is located in teh Mehrauli area of New Delhi, India. The construction of the minaret is thought to have started by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, the first ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. It is also thought to be named after is possibly named after Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki, a 13th century sufi saint. The architecture is a synthesis of South Asian and traditional Islamic architecture. The height of the minaret is 72.5 meters (238 ft - for comparison the statue of Liberty in NYC is 151 ft tall wich stands on a pedestal that is 154 feet tall), making it the tallest minaret in the world built of bricks. It consists of 5 stories and its construction, restorations and repairs continued well into 16th century. It has 379 steps.
I am Portland, Oregon based photographer. I am fascinated by many genres, but I particularly love travel and abstract photography. I immensely enjoy the process of taking images. It gives me an opportunity to slow down, immerse myself into the scene. I love that feeling of complete absorption, when you get into a flow, a zenlike, meditative state. I hope that my images convey this same sense of immersion and allow the viewer to feel similar emotions.
