Artist's Description

Steps of Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, India. Jama Masjid, as it is commonly called, literally means congregational mosque. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who also built Agra's Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan called it "Masjib-i-Jehan-Numa", which roughly translates as "mosque commanding the view of the world". It is located in Old Delhi, surrounded by Meena Bazaar and the historic Chandni Chowk. The mosque's designed was done by architect Ustad Khalil and was inaugurated in 1656. The Jama Masjd serves as Delhi's primary mosque. The masjid uses marble, including black marble, limestone and local red sandstone. The masjid has three entryways or gates, of which the eastern gate is the "shahi" or royal entrance.

About Aashish Vaidya

Aashish Vaidya

I am Portland, Oregon based photographer. I am fascinated by many genres, but I particularly love travel and abstract photography. I immensely enjoy the process of taking images. It gives me an opportunity to slow down, immerse myself into the scene. I love that feeling of complete absorption, when you get into a flow, a zenlike, meditative state. I hope that my images convey this same sense of immersion and allow the viewer to feel similar emotions.
