Description
Buddha Head in a Tree in Wat Mahathat (Temple of the Great Relic), Ayutthaya, Thailand. The historic city of Ayutthaya was second capital of Siamese Kingdom founded in 1350. The temple was vandalized and destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767. The exact story about how the head got in the roots of the tree is not known. But it is believed that somehow the head was left near the tree and roots of the banyan tree over time entwined it.
