Euphorbia is genus of flowering plants. They are also commonly referred to as spurge. Poinsettia belongs to the same genus. Euphorbia is a big genus comprising of about 2000 members, making it one of the most prolific flowering plants. The flower itself are very tiny and they are usually unisex. In this image, most likely all the visible flowers which are surrounded by a involucre (the green leaf-like pad), are females. The three of so styles and stigmas visible on each of the ovaries.
The plant gets its name from Euphorbos, the Greek physician in the cour of King Juba II, around 50 years BCE. Euphorbos identify that the plant can be used as a powerful laxative. The name of the genus was bestowed by Carl Linnaeus, the renowned swedish bontanist, in the physician's honor.
I am Portland, Oregon based photographer. I am fascinated by many genres, but I particularly love travel and abstract photography. I immensely enjoy the process of taking images. It gives me an opportunity to slow down, immerse myself into the scene. I love that feeling of complete absorption, when you get into a flow, a zenlike, meditative state. I hope that my images convey this same sense of immersion and allow the viewer to feel similar emotions.
